“We need a robust and transparent governance structure for infrastructure renewal….”
Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives

To increase the value of the IGNITE Sustainable Communities Program to its public organization membership (Community Members), IGNITE Infrastructure Association added steering committees to its structure. Steering committees develop special programs for IGNITE members. Two steering committee types exist – Regional and Sector.
Regional Steering Committees
Regional Steering Committees develop special programs for geographic areas such as countries, states, or provinces. These committees may have specific sector committees report to them allowing them to better understand the specific needs of different sectors within the region. Sectors are defined below.
Sector Steering Committees
Sector Steering Committees develop special programs for specific sector groups. These sectors are either municipalities, higher education, schools, health care, government, or First Nations. Each of these sectors face unique challenges and needs in their use of public infrastructure. Sector-specific steering committees act of behalf of Community Members from that sector. The committee’s purpose is to make the IGNITE Sustainable Communities Program better for that sector.
Governance Body
It is important to always remember that the IGNITE Infrastructure Association Inc operates as an independent governance body. Its sole mandate is to ensure the proper long-term execution and administration of the development, design, build, finance, operation, and maintenance (DDBFOM) of the infrastructure assets entrusted to its care by its membership. Everything within the IGNITE Infrastructure Association is designed to serve its membership.
